The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is based at Backford near Chester, and has 12 in-patient beds. We have had 2 bed/chair sensor systems for several years now and are in the process of purchasing a third system. The systems have been vital and necessary pieces of equipment to assist in the care of patients who are at risk of falls. When equipment has become faulty i.e. severed wire/lead etc. the process of service and repairs has been efficient and sleek, inspection and quote for repairs are reported back to us as soon as possible, for authorisation to continue with repair. Collections and returns via SensorCare arranged courier service is speedy and safe. When extra system has been needed, the Hire equipment has been distributed in a timely manner, and good relations (polite and friendly) with SensorCare Team have been ongoing for a number of years. SensorCare have provided the Hospice with on-site training for use of equipment with our staff on a number of occasions over the years. Appropriate equipment information and guidance, including link to troubleshooting videos, have also been provided, and are an invaluable reference source for staff (particularly new staff). We have recently ordered 8 sensor care alarms and pager unit and upgrade to our existing unit – this has made a huge difference to the safety of the patients on a rehab ward as the alert system on the pager has enabled the staff to react much quicker to any potential risk – particularly with patient identified as ‘frequent fallers’. The capacity of the upgraded system allows us to monitor more patients at the same time as well as enabling us to monitor a single patient as they move around the unit without the need to constantly move the single alarm set.

Mayfield House has dealt with SensorCare for the past few years on behalf of one of our residents who has an alarm system and is severly disabled. Staff rely on the alarm to keep him safe. I am happy to express that having used Sensor Care equipment for a number of years when it has come to purchasing new equipment the service I have received from the company has been excellent. The 14 day free trial was an ideal opportunity for me to get a unit for the ward, show the staff how they work and also demonstrate to the budget holders the equipment in place. As a result we have ordered more units, I am delighted to report that one lady who had a nasty fall requiring suturing was placed on the system and was discharged 1 month later with no further falls.
